The Client is in the process of planning the construction of a new Headquarters building, currently planned to be completed by the end of 2012.

The main responsibility of the subject post is to ensure that the Organisation will make the best use of current and emerging technologies to optimize the effectiveness of the Headquarters’ Information & Communications Technology (ICT) architecture processes, principles and standards mainly within the context of the Headquarters’ new building(s) and in accordance with the Headquarters Enterprise Architecture plans.

The ICT Architect will be responsible for investigating and making recommendations on currently available and emerging ICT systems and network solutions in terms of their applicability, value, cost, and practicality within the proposed construction of the new Headquarters building.

A successful career in the Military, Defence industry or Government will have helped prepare you for this role and provided you with a mandatory current security clearance. 

Responsibilities

  • Review business drivers, needs and strategies and assess the implications to the ICT architecture;
  • Analysing user requirements and adopt working methods to identify potential technologies to exploit and improve Headquarters ICT Architecture;
  • Analyse the impact of ICT requirements on physical building infrastructure;
  • Analyse the ergonomics aspect of the ICT systems required in special-purpose rooms;
  • Coordinating with technical experts and other ICT Architects in defining ICT solutions for new buildings;
  • Performing technical research using the internet, libraries, and other technical documentation to gather information on various ICT products and trends;
  • Conducting studies to determine the feasibility and desirability of implementing emerging technologies to support the Headquarters ICT requirements;
  • Working with user representatives and ICT analysts to review/document existing business processes and design/document new processes to take advantage of available and emergent technologies;
  • Coordinating with Headquarters INFOSEC security personnel on investigating the security related aspects of possible ICT solutions.

  • As there will be periods of high pressure to meet certain deadlines, possessing tact and high integrity is mandatory;
  • Be agnostic for any particular technology, make or vendor.
  • Knowledge and experience
  • Have applied knowledge of ICT Architecture models within a large organisation with an accent on infrastructure architecture;
  • Have a good conceptual understanding and technical knowledge of current and emerging information systems and network technologies, including project-related organizational aspects;
  • Have a sound background of conducting technical research using the internet, library, and other sources of information;
  • Have experience with Data Centre Design, Infrastructure support systems and network capacity planning;
  • Have knowledge of electrical and electromagnetic engineering.
  • Refine and enhance architecture methodologies and / or standards
  • Develop and analyze cost estimates for the proposed ICT solutions for the new HQ building.

Qualifications

  • College degree in electronic engineering, information management or related subject or equivalent work experience;
  • Have 7-10 years proven professional experience in projects related to civil construction and ICT infrastructure;
  • Understanding of project management methodologies and tools (Prince2);
  • Strong analytical capabilities and experience with modeling techniques;
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English or French and good working knowledge of the other;
  • Ability to manage multiple simultaneous projects.

Estimated Term

  • 6-12 Months with some flexibility.  The successful candidate shall indeed be available to work a minimum of 2 days per week with a maximum of 5 days.  The schedule will be agreed between the supervisor and the consultant 2 weeks in advance.
